Metabolic Screening

  • Anyone who wants to understand their body better and train smarter can benefit from a metabolic screening, whether you are an athlete, active individual, or focused on long-term health.

Metabolic screening is the most accurate scientific method to measure how efficiently your body uses oxygen, burns fat and carbohydrates, and recovers. It is one of the best indicators of health, performance, and longevity.

At Strength Clinic Academy, we use advanced VO₂max, RMR, and lactate testing to create precise, data-driven training and nutrition plans. This takes the guesswork out of your training and helps you perform better, recover faster, and live healthier for longer.

  • The VO₂max and lactate tests are performed simultaneously to give a complete picture of your metabolic efficiency and endurance capacity.

You’ll perform graded exercise on a treadmill or bike while wearing a mask that measures how much oxygen you breathe in and how much carbon dioxide you breathe out. The intensity gradually increases until you reach your maximum effort. Throughout the test, small blood samples are taken from your fingertip at the end of each stage to measure lactate levels.

This combination allows us to identify your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds, fat-burning efficiency, and optimal training zones for endurance, recovery, and performance.

  • Yes, the test is completely safe and supervised by qualified professionals. Intensity levels are managed based on your fitness level, medical history, and goals.

  • Your results reveal exactly how your body burns energy and at what intensities. This allows our physiologists and trainers to:

    • Personalize your nutrition targets (no more guesswork)

    • Identify your optimal training zones

    • Improve endurance and recovery

    • Reduce risk of overtraining and burnout

  • Essential Metabolic Screening
Designed for anyone who wants to understand their body’s baseline performance and energy efficiency.
    It includes:

    • VO₂max test to measure aerobic capacity and cardiovascular fitness

    • Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test to identify how many calories your body burns at rest

    • Lactate threshold test to determine endurance and optimal training intensity

    • Data analysis and report detailing your training zones for fat burn, performance, and recovery

    Elite Metabolic Screening
Built for athletes and high performers who want the most advanced data for precision training.
It includes everything in the Essential package plus:

    • Full performance profiling (power, strength, heart rate, and recovery markers)

    • Movement and strength assessments using VALD technology

    • Comprehensive nutrition and training recommendations based on results

    • Consultation with our exercise physiologist to design a personalised performance plan

Both screenings give you actionable insights to train smarter, recover faster, and optimise long-term health and performance.

Find out which is right for you

  • You don’t need to fast completely, but what you eat and do before testing can affect your results. Follow these guidelines for the most accurate data:

    24 hours before testing

    • Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy training.

    • Get adequate sleep and stay well hydrated.

    • Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine.

    3–4 hours before testing

    • Do not eat a heavy meal. A small, light snack (like a banana or toast) is fine if needed.

    • Avoid pre-workout supplements, energy drinks, and excessive coffee.

    • Drink water as usual but avoid overhydration right before the test.

    Clothing and preparation

    • Wear comfortable training attire and proper running or cycling shoes.

    • Bring a towel and water bottle.

Following these steps ensures your VO₂ and lactate readings reflect your true aerobic capacity and performance levels without interference from food, caffeine, or fatigue.

Pilates

  • We offer Reformer Pilates and Clinical Pilates. Reformer Pilates uses the reformer machine for resistance-based movement, while Clinical Pilates is tailored for rehab, injury recovery, or physiotherapy-led movement correction.

  • Pilates is safe and effective for a wide range of clients, whether you’re looking for improved posture, core strength, rehab from injury, or just better body awareness. It’s especially beneficial for those recovering from injuries, with back/hip issues, or wanting a low-impact strength alternative.

  • Pilates can be adapted safely during many recovery phases. But it depends on the specific condition. Before resuming, we assess your medical history and restrictions. Always inform your instructor of any surgeries, injuries, or health conditions beforehand. Clinical Pilates is excellent for rehabilitation. Because we work under the guidance of physiotherapists, we can safely prescribe movements that protect injured tissues, rebuild strength, and restore functional movement patterns.

  • Yes, Pilates can support weight loss, especially when combined with strength training and good nutrition. It helps build lean muscle, improve posture, and increase overall body awareness, which boosts calorie efficiency and long-term fat loss.

While Pilates alone may not burn as many calories as high-intensity workouts, it strengthens deep stabilising muscles, enhances core control, and supports better movement in other forms of exercise. At Strength Clinic Academy, we often combine Reformer Pilates with strength and metabolic training to help clients achieve sustainable body composition changes.

Boxing

  • We offer both skill-based boxing coaching and fitness boxing / conditioning sessions. This includes footwork, technique, bag work, and circuit-style conditioning for strength and endurance.

  • No, our coaches tailor drills and progressions for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. You’ll never feel lost; we build you up skill by skill.

  • Yes, with proper screening and programming. Notify your coach of any existing injuries. We’ll modify exercises or restrict certain drills as needed. Additionally, our integrated approach allows your physiotherapist and boxing coach to coordinate safely. That way, you can maintain discipline while recovering or getting stronger.

  • Yes, boxing is an excellent way to build strength, especially in your upper body, core, and legs. Every punch uses your hips, shoulders, and core muscles, improving power, coordination, and endurance.

While boxing builds functional and explosive strength, it’s most effective when combined with a structured strength training program. At Strength Clinic Academy, we integrate boxing with resistance and conditioning work to help you develop total-body strength, speed, and stability.
