What is Metabolic Screening?

Metabolic screening analyses how your body uses energy at rest and during exercise. By measuring VO₂ max, lactate threshold, resting metabolic rate, and other objective biomarkers, it reveals how efficiently you burn calories and when your body shifts from aerobic to anaerobic energy. These insights help define optimal training zones, guide recovery, and shape personalised nutrition and fitness plans. Whether for sports performance, weight management, or overall health, metabolic screening empowers you to train smarter and achieve lasting results tailored to your unique physiology.

Unlocking Performance Insights

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)

While at complete rest, your body still needs calories to maintain essential functions, like breathing, circulation, and cell repair. Knowing your body’s baseline energy requirement helps you tailor your diet to meet your energy needs for optimised weight management

Energy system efficiency
Understanding how your body burns fats and carbohydrates during exercise allows us to create personalised nutrition plans that help you use fuel efficiently, maximise energy output, and sustain peak performance.

VO₂ max
Metabolic screening identifies your optimal heart rate and intensity zones based on your lactate threshold and VO₂ max. This allows you to train smarter in personalised training zones by targeting specific intensities to improve endurance, speed, and overall performance.

Breaking Performance Plateaus

If you've hit a plateau in your training, metabolic screening helps identify inefficiencies or gaps in your approach. With accurate data, you can adjust your workouts and nutrition to overcome stagnation and continue progressing.

Lactate threshold

Understanding how your body utilises oxygen and manages lactic acid helps enhance your stamina and improve endurance. Train at the right intensity to delay fatigue, allowing you to perform longer and more efficiently.

Enhanced Recovery
By knowing how your body handles energy and fatigue. design recovery strategies that help reduce soreness, prevent overtraining, and ensure quicker recovery between workouts or competitions.

Technology We Use

We use state-of-the-art technology to ensure accurate and data-driven decisions to help you achieve your fitness and sports goals:

  • Calibre Biometric Tracker

Calibre is a lab-grade, wearable metabolic testing device that measures over 20 real-time breath metrics, providing detailed insights into how your body uses energy at rest and during exercise. Using gold-standard indirect calorimetry, Calibre captures VO₂, VCO₂, breath volume, and respiratory rate to calculate key indicators such as VO₂ Max, Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR), FatMax, fuel source breakdown, and calorie burn rate.

  • VALD Performance Systems

VALD Performance is a comprehensive performance testing platform that evaluates strength, power, and movement efficiency. ForceDecks uses dual force plates to measure ground reaction forces during squats, jumps, and isometric holds, revealing power output, asymmetries, and movement strategy. DynaMo, a handheld dynamometer, accurately assesses isolated muscle strength, joint range of motion, and muscular imbalances while enabling progress tracking over time. This integration ensures that training programs address both metabolic and biomechanical factors, giving a holistic view of athletic performance and injury prevention.

Which Metabolic Screening is Right for You?

Essential Screening

Unlock Metabolic Insight: Build Your Health & Performance Blueprint

Discover a deeper understanding of your body with our comprehensive essential screening package. Designed to help you optimise energy, resilience, and long-term wellbeing. Whether you're a busy professional, wellness enthusiast, or performance-driven individual, this is your blueprint for smarter living.

What's Included?

Resting Metabolic Rate

Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the number of calories your body needs to maintain essential functions, like breathing, circulation, and cell repair, whilst at complete rest. It’s your body’s baseline energy requirement, even before you factor in movement, meals, or stress.

VO2 Max

Your VO₂ max measures the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during intense physical activity. It’s a key indicator of cardiovascular fitness and overall endurance, but it’s also a powerful marker of long-term health and vitality.

Lung Spirometry

This is a simple, yet powerful test that measures how well your lungs function. Specifically, how much air you can inhale and exhale, and how quickly you can do it. It’s a key tool for assessing overall respiratory health.

Grip Strength Dynamometry

Grip strength measures how much force your hands can generate when squeezing. Although simple, it’s incredibly telling. It’s not just about hand strength; it’s a proven marker of overall muscular health, functional capacity and even long-term vitality.

What will be measured?

  • Optimal Calorie Requirements

  • Endurance & Threshold Training Zones

  • VO2 Max

  • Overall Lung Function

  • Absolute & Relative Grip Strength

  • Objective Biomarkers for Longevity

Elite Screening

Unlock Advanced Insight: Personalised Screening for Peak Health & Performance

For those ready to go beyond the basics, our Elite Screening delivers a deeper, more customised analysis of your body’s performance systems. This advanced package includes targeted assessments of muscular imbalances, strength and power output, along with added blood lactate profiling, giving you insight into how your body generates, tolerates, and clears fatigue. Every test is tailored to your individual goals, whether you're training for competition, recovering from injury, or simply striving for optimal health.

What's Included?

VO2 Max

Your VO2 Max tells you how efficiently your body uses oxygen during exercise. It reflects cardiovascular fitness and endurance potential. It is also the strongest indicator for health span and longevity.

Blood Lactate

Blood lactate reveals how your body produces and clears lactate during exertion. It identifies your lactate threshold, the tipping point where fatigue accelerates and recovery slows.

VALD ForceDecks and Dynamometer Testing

These systems are game-changers for both rehab and performance clients. They bring objectivity, precision, and actionable insight to strength, power, and imbalance testing. Far beyond what the eye or manual testing can detect. Understanding your muscle power is also one of the strongest predictors of long-term independence and quality of life. Unlike strength, power declines nearly twice as fast after age 40, impacting mobility, balance, and overall vitality.

What will be measured?

  • Optimal Calorie Requirements

  • Endurance & Threshold Training Zones

  • VO2 Max

  • Blood Lactate Profiling

  • Strength & Power

  • Muscular Imbalances

  • Objective Biomarkers for Longevity
